The Government of the Republic of Uganda (GoU) is expanding its higher education network to address the growing demand for higher education fuelled by the expanding national population projected to reach over 35 million by 2014 and growing regional initiative like the East African Federation framework.
Universities
Boasting of the oldest university in East & Central Africa, Uganda has for years been a major education destination for students in the region, both at the university level and at the elementary and high school (or secondary school/college) levels, and interest continues in both the public and private Ugandan universities.
International University of East Africa

Uganda Management Institute
Uganda management Institute (UMI) is a National Centre for Training, Research and Consultancy in the field of Administration, Leadership and Management. Mbarara University of Science & Technology
Mbarara University of Science & Technology is a public university and over the years it has won acclaimed national and international recognition for best practices in outreach and community relations. Mbarara University of Science & Technology aims to provide quality and relevant education at national and international level with particular emphasis on Science and Technology and its application to community development.
Gulu University
Initially the University was named Gulu University of Agriculture and Environmental Science and was to specialise in agricultural mechanisation. However, it was later proposed that the University should widen its scope beyond agricultural mechanisation and produce high level human resource that can effectively participate in solving the social and economic problems of the country. It was then renamed Gulu University.
Kyambogo University
Kyambogo University is a relatively new University created with the main aim of promoting and advancing knowledge and development of skills in Science, Technology and Education and such other fields having regards for quality, equity, progress and transformation of society. Institute of Petroleum Studies

Soroti University
Soroti University intends to anchor its life on five thematic areas to address the human resources gaps in Uganda, in the region and/or develop more capacity to enable society to cope with poverty, unemployment, inadequacy of skilled workers in key sectors endemic problems like health. It will also address national concerns such as modernizing agriculture, supporting industry, raising the level of technical skills for operating small and medium size businesses, raising science education, increasing ICT diffusion and business education.
Islamic University in Uganda
The Islamic University in Uganda aspires to function as a highly academic and cultural institution based on Islam and love of the country. It aims at promoting and enhancing the civilization and scientific influence of Islam and physical world to produce well-cultured, morally-upright graduates of sound character, equipped with useful skills and knowledge, to enable them participate positively in the development process of their countries. Uganda Christian University
Nkumba University
Nkumba University is one of the largest private universities in East Africa. The University is a non-profit, non-denominational institution providing an enabling environment for students to achieve competence, creativity, confidence and character so as to think critically and act responsibly in an increasingly competitive national and global environment.
Kumi University
Kumi University is a community based non-profit religious institution and was founded in 1996. ALTI soon grew into Kumi University in 1999. Kumi University accommodates believers from various ethnic groups, nations and church denominations. The main focus of the institution is to raise leaders who will serve the community in virtues of godliness, faithfulness and deep sense of accountability as well as transparency.
Busoga University
Busoga University is a private (non-profit making) institution founded by the Church of Uganda under the Busoga Diocese. In the last 15 years and 3 months, BU has been growing bigger and bigger. Today, the university has six faculties:

Kampala International University
Kabale University
This rich diversity of students is always appreciated by the Kabale community, especially when academic and social functions are held by the University. Kabale University is unique in its origin. It is a secular community-founded and people-centred institution, which was established by a group of promoters who continue to support the institution.

St. Lawrence University
St. Lawrence University in Uganda opened its doors to new students in 2007. This University is unique because in every degree or diploma course offered it emphasizes Entrepreneurship, ICT (Information Communication Technology) Research Paper, and Empowerment in order to produce graduates who are self-reliant, versatile and who will answer the usually disturbing question of “after University what next”?.
Aga Khan University
In Uganda, where nurses provide the vast majority of health services, the Aga Khan University (Advanced Nursing Studies) programme helps working nurses to improve their knowledge and leadership skills. As of 2009, almost 300 students have graduated from the ANS programme with a nursing qualification. These graduates represent a significant addition to the qualified nursing professionals currently working in Uganda.
All Saints University
All Saints University has three faculties (Faculty of Business Administration and Management, Faculty of Social Science and Faculty of Education), which provide daytime, evening and weekend lecture programmes to an expected student body of 250 undergraduates, diploma, professional and certificate students.

Cavendish University
Cavendish University Uganda, is a private university in Uganda, the third-largest economy in the East African Community.
