A recognized higher education institution in Namibia is an institution, or branch, that is registered with the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and whose academic programmes are accredited by the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA).
Namibian universities have seen major development over the years and the country’s ministry aims to further improve access to higher education for Namibians.
University of Namibia
The University of Namibia (UNAM) is the largest and leading National institution of higher education in the country. It is a diverse institution with a student population from all over the Continent. Although a relatively young university, it has grown to support a student population of 19,000 this year. Over the last few years, the University of Namibia inherited four Colleges of Education and two Agricultural Colleges, each with their own distinct brand identity.
Polytechnic of Namibia
The Polytechnic of Namibia has its roots in the establishment of the Academy for Tertiary Education in Namibia. The university aims to promote national competitiveness by providing multiple opportunities for excellent education, applied research, innovation and service.
