Today Eritrea embraces rapid expansion of it’s Education Sector following the opening up of many tertiary institutions all over the country to cater for the rising demand for education and training of the youth. The government has prioritised investment in education in the hopes that it will prove a catalyst to sustainable growth and poverty reduction. The Government of Eritrea has identified human resource development, including the need to strengthen institutions of higher education, as a key priority for growth and poverty reduction. In Eritrea’s education sector, the government has rolled out an ambitious programme of expansion of higher education institutions as well as vocational training.
The public administration and education sectors were the largest segments of GDP in 2011, at 28.6%. The government is committed to maintaining high levels of social spending, especially in education.
